Regarding laptops and computer peripherals, Acer and Asus are the two most popular names. While both are good brands, a few things can help you decide which would be better for you.

Starting with the basics, let’s talk about the manufacturers first –

Acer – Its Origin and More

Founded in 1976, Acer is probably one of the oldest manufacturers in the tech market.

It was founded as Multitech by Stan Shih and six other people, including his wife, in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. Initially, it produced electronic parts such as microprocessors and other things.

Later, they expanded their business by producing and selling various products, including laptops, tablets, desktops, monitors, keyboards, etc. At that time, the company also renamed its name to Acer from Multitech.

Right now, Acer is well-known for its laptops, PCs, monitors, and peripherals across the globe. However, very few people know that Acer was behind BenQ, another leading electronics producer globally.

So yeah, overall, I can say that Acer is a very popular and reliable manufacturer who understands the buyer’s needs and produces stuff accordingly.

Asus – Its Origin and More

Founded in 1989, Asus has also been in the industry for quite a long time. It is also a Taiwan-based electronics and computer manufacturer that offers a wide range of products.

It was founded by four former Acer hardware engineers, T.H. Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh, and M.T. Liao.

However, unlike Acer, Asus came into the industry as a hardware manufacturer, and at that time, the computer hardware business in Taiwan was yet to establish. Asus understood the need of the market and acted accordingly.

Hardware manufacturing is also the only section where Asus is ahead of Acer. Otherwise, most of the things between Acer and Asus are quite similar.

Acer currently produces and sells many products, such as laptops, monitors, graphics cards, motherboards, computer peripherals, and smartphones.

Acer vs Asus – Compared in Six Categories.

Looking at the history of both companies, I would say that both are reliable and trusted brands, and it is hard to say which one you should pick based on trust.

Both of these companies understand the market needs and offer the appropriate solutions.

I’ve decided to compare these manufacturers in six simple categories to make things easier for you. These categories include performance, pricing, design, components, product range, and customer support.

Acer vs Asus – Performance (Its a Draw)

Performance is where I think both companies do equally great, and it is hard to say which is ahead of the other.

These companies have a wide range of products in their arsenal, and their lineup contains high-end gaming and workstation laptops to budget-oriented laptops.

So, I would say the performance depends on the laptop you are going to purchase, what your needs are, and most importantly, your budget.

For instance, let’s have a look at the gaming lineup of both of these brands. Starting with Asus have the Asus Zephyrus M15,

Acer vs Asus

a premium gaming laptop with the i7-10750H processor, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and 1 TB of PCIe SSD. This laptop features NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q with 8 GB of DDR6 RAM.

To compete with this, Acer has a laptop from their popular gaming series, Acer Predator.

Acer vs Asus 1
View on Amazon

The laptop is an Acer Predator Helios 300 (PH317-54-70Z5) that boasts a 10th gen Intel i7-10750H processor with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM.

This laptop incorporates 1 TB of PCIe NVMe SSD and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q with 8 GB of DDR6 RAM.

Regarding performance, there will be little to no difference between these laptops. Why?🧐 Because both of these laptops feature similar components, those components deliver the performance in the end.

So, how can somebody say that i7-10750H will deliver better performance in Asus Zephyrus M15 than Acer Predator Helios 300 or vice versa?

Both of these manufacturers have a wide range of products and options for almost every single need.

It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a $500 budget laptop or a $3000 high-performance gaming laptop; both brands have a wide range of options.

So yeah, I would say it is a tie in the performance category. Both Acer and Asus are worthy options, and the performance of your laptop depends on the specs you choose, not the brand you pick.

So, I, or nobody, can say that Acer outperforms Asus or Asus outperforms Acer in terms of overall performance.

Acer vs Asus – Pricing (A Slight Edge to Acer)

Both manufacturers have many products on the market, and both have laptops and other products better priced than many other manufacturers.

But overall, I would say that Acer offers a slightly better price to performance than Asus most of the time.

That said, this is not always the case, and in some instances, we can see that Asus is providing a better price for performance than Acer. For example, look at the laptops we compared in the last category, performance.

So, we have the Asus Zephyrus M15 that you can buy from Amazon at around $1600 to $1700. On the other hand, we have the Acer Predator Helios 300 (PH317-54-70Z5) that usually gets sold for around $2000 on Amazon.

While most of the specs on both these laptops are the same, Acer Predator Helios 300 is around $300-350 costlier than Asus Zephyrus M15.

So, regarding the price-to-performance ratio, the Asus Zephyrus M15 is undoubtedly a better choice.

But not to forget that Acer Predator 300 comes with a 17.3 inches display, compared to Zephyrus M15’s 15.6 inches display.

Acer Predator also features a full-sized keyboard that contains a Numpad, which the Zephyrus M15 lacks. These small differences increase the overall cost of Acer Predator, and these small things can be a deal-breaker for some.

But again, if you don’t care about the bigger display or full-sized keyboard, definitely for you, the Asus Zephyrus M15 is a better choice as that delivers the best price to performance.

Conversely, Acer has some well-priced options in their Acer Predator, Acer Nitro, and other budget-oriented notebook series, such as Acer Aspire.

Asus surely has some well-priced laptops, especially in their VivoBook and TUF lineup. Still, overall, it is pretty evident that Acer slightly edges out Asus in terms of pricing, especially on their budget-friendly laptops.

So yeah, Acer provides a slightly better performance price. But again, it all depends on the specs you are buying and which manufacturer offers the better pricing for the specification.

Acer vs Asus- Design and build (A slight edge to Asus)

Design is another aspect that varies depending on the price range you have in your head.

But if we consider the overall design of the laptops, I would say that Asus is surely slightly ahead of Acer, but that is by a very slight margin, and that too, primarily for the budget-oriented laptops.

For example, if you look at the budget-friendly notebooks by Acer, you will find that most notebooks feature a very similar design.

It seems like Acer designed a casing, then designed different laptop configurations and fitted them in the same casing. It feels like Acer gives a lot of importance to making their laptops the best value for money, and that’s why they do this.

On the other hand, Asus focuses a lot on design, even on lower-end laptops. But that is not always the case, especially if you compare the Acer Aspire series with the Asus VivoBook series.

Both series features a basic design, and you cannot say one is superior. Another tricky thing with the design is that it depends on the buyer.

Also, if you go for the higher-end laptops, you will see that Acer offers a slightly better design than Asus. For instance, look at Asus Zephyrus M15 and Acer Predator 300.

Acer Predator looks way better than Asus Zephyrus M15, but that is my opinion. You might like the Zephyrus M15 over Acer Predator 300, and that is because the design is subjective and depends on your taste.

However, overall, if we look at the entire lineup, I would say that Asus has a better design than Acer. But again, that depends on your budget, laptop lineup, and, most importantly, your perspective.

Acer vs Asus – Components (A slight edge over Asus)

Both of these manufacturers have been in the industry for a very long time, and they know the needs of their buyers.

Both companies have been using Intel and AMD processors and graphics cards to power their machines, and therefore, it is hard to say that Asus is better than Acer or vice versa.

For monitors as well, both of these companies design their units to deliver high-quality displays, and both of them are great. However, one thing where Asus shines is the motherboards.

Acer designs its motherboards for particular models but outsources them to a company named COMPAL for manufacturing.

Unlike this, Asus designs and manufactures motherboards for their units, and this is the only section where, component-wise, Asus is slightly ahead of Acer.

But with that, I am not saying that components, especially motherboards on Acer designed by COMPAL, are bad. Acer and COMPAL have been doing business together for ages and are pretty great in the game. Just look at the Predator series of Acer.

So, overall, I would say that both of these brands are pretty close in this race, but Asus is slightly ahead because it designs and manufactures every single component.

Acer vs Asus – Product Range (It’s a tie)

Regarding the product range, both Asus and Acer have many products. The list of products ranges from extreme budget-friendly options to mid-range Chromebooks, mid-range to high-end gaming solutions, and premium laptops and desktop-replacement gaming machines.

Acer has its Aspire series for budget-friendly notebooks, and to compete with them, Asus has its VivoBook lineup.

For budget-friendly mid-range gaming machines, Asus has their TUF lineup that competes directly with Acer’s Nitro series gaming laptops.

And regarding high-end desktop replacement laptops, Acer has its super powerful and popular Predator series, which competes with Asus’s Zephyrus and ROG lineup.

Overall, looking at the product range, I would say that both of these manufacturers have many options to meet almost every single person’s needs.

So, whether you want a budget-friendly notebook for your day-to-day use or a complete desktop replacement machine, you can easily find suitable options from both brands.

Customer Support (Asus is the winner)

One category where I feel Asus is way ahead of Acer is customer support or the customer service department. Both companies have decent ways to help their customers.

You can connect with their technical team via email or walking to the nearby customer service centers. On the bright side, both companies have customer service centers across the globe, and you can easily find one around your city.

However, Acer gets more complaints on average than Asus. Note that Acer has a comparatively bigger market share than Asus regarding laptops. So that can explain why Acer receives more complaints than Asus.

However, that doesn’t mean that Asus doesn’t get complaints. They receive many complaints, but compared with Acer, Asus is better in the customer support department.

Acer vs Asus – Which brand should you go with?

Looking at the side-by-side comparison, you can understand that it is not easy to say that Acer is a better brand than Asus or vice versa.

Both of these manufacturers have been in the industry for a long time and hold an excellent reputation among users.

They both have several options available at each price point, and that’s why I would say that which brand will be the right choice for you will ultimately depend on your budget and requirement.

I would suggest continuing with this section if you want my opinion. Otherwise, you can head over to the final verdict.

1. For Gamers

If you are a gamer and want a laptop mainly for gaming, I suggest going with Acer. That is because Acer’s Predator series ultimately offers beast laptops, and that too at a very reasonable price.

The price to performance you receive on the Predator series is unbeatable by any manufacturer.

But again, that is for the people who want PC-level gaming on a laptop. If you want a mid-range gaming machine, Acer has its Nitro series, which competes with Asus’s TUF lineup.

Both of these series have some good laptops, and therefore, I would suggest looking at the configuration. See which manufacturer delivers a better value for money, and go with that.

And gamers who want a high-end gaming machine with a slim and minimal design can go with Asus’s Zephyrus or ROG series.

2. For everyday use notebooks

If you want a notebook for your daily tasks, such as light gaming, music, movie, and other stuff, I suggest you go with Acer.

Acer has a decent collection of notebooks that are great for serving this purpose, and the best thing about these notebooks is that they offer great value for money.

Asus also has some decent notebooks, especially in their VivoBook lineup. You can also consider that, but Acer offers a better value for money in this section, which is why I will go with Acer for everyday use notebooks.

3. For Business and Productivity usage

Regarding business and productivity, people rarely care about pricing, and that’s where Asus shines.

On this front, Acer’s Swift and Spin series offer some great laptops. You can go with Acer ConceptD 3, Acer’s tremendous convertible creator laptop.

Acer vs Asus 2
View on Amazon

But I think Asus’s ZenBook and Zephyrus series offer better laptops than the Swift and Spin series.

Acer ConceptD 3 is still an excellent Acer laptop that gives Asus tough competition. But overall, I would say that Asus has better laptops for business purposes.

4. Chromebooks

Again, I would say that Asus is better than Acer for Chromebooks. Acer does have some good Chromebooks in its lineups, such as Spin 713, Chromebook 315, and others.

But in my opinion, Asus has some better options for Chromebooks. For example, Asus Flip CM5500 offers a great touchscreen FHD display, a powerful Ryzen 5 processor, and a 128 GB SSD for storage. But again, it depends on your budget and requirements.

Best Laptop Recommendations

If you are still confused, here we have the best laptop recommendations. Here we have picked one gaming machine and a daily-use notebook from each brand.

From Acer

1. Acer Predator Helios 300– Best Gaming Laptop from Acer

Predator Helios 300 is arguably the most popular laptop series Acer has ever introduced. It targets mid-range gamers who want a powerful machine but cannot afford to spend $2000-3000.

The laptop we picked from this lineup is Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-760S.

Acer vs Asus Laptops - A comprehensive comparison
View on Amazon

It is a mid-range machine, priced just below $1500, and at this price, it offers the best value for money. This powerful machine is powered by an 11th-generation Intel i7-11800H processor with eight cores and 16 threads.

This processor can hit the clock speed of up to 4.60 GHz, and with an octa-core setup, this laptop can smoothly run any CPU-intensive software or games.

The laptop further features two RAM slots for DDR4 memory, each occupied by 8 GB RAM sticks clocked at 3200 MHz, giving you 16 GB of RAM for smooth functioning.

16 GB of RAM should be sufficient if you are a light gamer. But if you want to upgrade, you can upgrade the RAM to up to 64 GB by installing two 32 GB RAM modules.

For storage, it comes with a 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD. 512 GB of storage must be sufficient to install software and games on your laptop, but if you want to upgrade the storage, you can put a 2.5-inch hard drive or SSD to upgrade it.

Plus, along with that 2.5-inch free hard drive bay, it has an additional M.2 slot to install an additional PCIe SSD. So, this laptop has pretty good upgrade options for storage and RAM.

This laptop comes with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU for graphics. This laptop GPU (obviously) is based on Ampere architecture and features 6 GB of DDR6 RAM.

It supports DirectX 12 and can easily deliver a smooth performance on any AAA title at FHD graphics settings.

Design-wise, the Acer Predator Helios 300 looks like nothing but a powerful gaming machine. The premium black chassis with angled lid corners and aggressive-looking cooling vents make the laptop look like a gaming beast.

Plus, it has a backlit Predator logo on the lid. The build is made of partial aluminum with a plastic base, making it pretty solid and durable.

The laptop has a 15.6 inches FHD IPS display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a 3 ms response time. The display looks pretty great and has excellent viewing angles. This display is great for gaming, editing, and other things.

The display has pretty thin bezels on the sides and top. On top of the screen is a 720p webcam, which seems sufficient for occasional video calling but nothing beyond that.

Overall, I would say that Acer Predator Helios 300 is a pretty powerful machine that can run any latest AAA titles without an issue. It gives you multiple upgrade options that you can rarely see on laptops.

At around $1500, it delivers the best value for money. Therefore, if you are planning to buy a gaming laptop for yourself, I would highly recommend considering Acer Predator Helios 300 as a worthy option.

2. Acer Swift 3 – Best Acer Laptop for Personal or Business usage

After a super powerful gaming machine, we have Acer’s budget-oriented personal and business-use laptop.

Even though it is a mid-budget machine, it outperforms other laptops in this range, which is why it is on our recommendation list.

Acer vs Asus Laptops - A comprehensive comparison
View on Amazon

The model we picked features an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U processor to power this laptop. It is an octa-core processor that can hit a clock speed of up to 4.1 GHz.

This processor is sufficient to run multiple tabs of resource-hogging Google Chrome smoothly. You can also do productivity tasks such as Photoshop and some light gaming.

It features 8 GB of DDR4 RAM that perfectly complements this laptop’s configuration. This 8 GB of RAM is clocked at 3200 MHz, managing tasks very smoothly.

Sadly, the RAM is soldered, which means you can only upgrade the RAM from the available channel to up to 16 GB.

The 16 GB of RAM sounds pretty petite, but I highly doubt that anyone will ever need to upgrade the RAM to more than 16 GB in the lifetime of this laptop.

For storage, you get a 512 GB NVMe M.2 SSD. Even though 512 GB of storage is sufficient for most users, it doesn’t have any additional ports to upgrade the storage in this laptop.

That means if you want to upgrade the storage on this laptop, you have to replace the current SSD with the bigger one.

To deliver graphics, it has AMD’s integrated Radeon graphics, which can give you excellent performance for photo editing and watching FHD videos. You can also do light gaming but at the lowest graphical settings.

Additionally, it comes with a fingerprint sensor for fast login, Wi-Fi 6 for a much better and strong wireless connection, and a backlit keyboard to work in dark conditions.

Design-wise, it has a very minimal build. It weighs just 2.7 pounds and has a thickness of just 0.6 inches, making it an extremely portable laptop.

Further, it features a lithium-ion battery that can give enough juice to run this machine for around 10-11 hours. If you want a highly portable ultrabook, consider Acer Swift 3 a good option.

From Asus

1. Asus ROG Strix G15 – best mid-range gaming laptop from Asus

Undoubtedly, Asus has an extensive range of gaming laptops, but one of the biggest successors for Asus in the gaming laptop industry is its ROG series.

Acer vs Asus 5
View on Amazon

That is primarily because the ROG series caters to mid-range gamers who want desktop-like performance but have a tight budget.

However, that doesn’t mean that the ROG series is cheap; instead, you can call it more like a value-for-money lineup.

The laptop we picked from their lineup is Asus ROG Strix G15. An AMD Ryzen R9-5900HX processor powers this laptop with eight cores and 16 threads.

These cores are clocked at a base frequency of 3.3 GHz and can go up to 4.6 GHz, making it a very potent processor. This processor is so powerful that it runs anything you throw at it smoothly.

This laptop combines this processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory. This graphics processor can easily handle today’s AAA and top eSports titles.

You can get beyond 200 FPS in FHD settings in plenty of those titles. So yeah, it is an excellent machine for gaming and graphics-intensive tasks.

The fact this machine gets a 300 Hz FHD IPS panel makes sense because you will hit that 300 FPS mark in games like CS: GO, Valorant, GTA, FAR CRY, and many others.

Plus, it is an IPS panel which means you can do a lot of productivity stuff that requires color correction. The IPS panel also ensures that you will have great viewing angles.

To complement this configuration, it features two 16 GB DDR4 RAM sticks clocked at 3200 MHz. The maximum memory this laptop supports is 32 GB, meaning you cannot upgrade it further.

32 GB of memory would already be more than sufficient for most gamers. Still, if you want to upgrade it for better performance, you can replace these memory sticks with LPDDR4 modules with a higher frequency.

For storage, you get a 1 TB PCIe SSD for faster functioning and loading time. Even though 1 TB of storage should be good enough to install multiple gamers and productivity tools, you can install an additional 1 TB M.2 PCIe SSD on the additional M.2 port to upgrade the laptop’s storage capacity.

Design-wise, the laptop looks very attractive and eye-catchy. The majority of the section on the laptop has lighting and is covered with ROG branding.

On the backside, it has the ROG logo. The only thing I didn’t like about the laptop’s build is that it is made of plastic. It is quite robust but flexes a little near the base and keyboard.

Overall, I would say that if you are looking for a powerful machine, the Asus ROG Strix G15 can be a good choice for you.

The plastic build might be a drawback, but it is not a deal-breaker. The build is reasonably great and makes the laptop lighter in weight.

ASUS Strix G15 - The GLOWING Gaming Laptop

2. Asus VivoBook 15 – Best Business Laptop from Asus

Asus VivoBook 15 is a budget-oriented laptop targeted toward business and casual users. The laptop is thin and lightweight, making it an excellent choice for people who want a machine to carry around.

Acer vs Asus 6
View on Amazon

This laptop has an AMD Ryzen 7 3700U processor. This laptop has four cores and eight threads, clocked at a base frequency of 2.3 GHz that can reach 4.0 GHz with max boost.

This processor is a solid performer and capable of running multiple programs along with multiple tabs of Google Chrome very smoothly. This processor is surely a good choice for everyday tasks and light productivity.

This laptop features an integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 GPU for graphics, which gives solid performance for basic tasks such as watching videos or photo editing but isn’t designed for serious gaming or graphics-intensive tasks.

You can surely do light gaming with the lowest graphics settings, but I would never recommend this laptop for gaming at all.

It comes with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, which can help you with smooth functioning and multitasking. This RAM can be upgraded to up to 16 GB, and I don’t think you will ever need to upgrade RAM beyond 16 GB with this configuration.

For storage, this laptop boasts a 512 GB PCIe SSD. Having an SSD makes the laptop lighter and slimmer, drastically increasing performance and loading speed.

There is no additional port for upgrading the storage capacity, which means the only way to upgrade storage is by removing the current SSD and replacing it with a bigger one.

The laptop features a 15-inch full HD display that does a fantastic job of reproducing colors for images and videos.

It has a 4-way NanoEdge bezel display with a stunning 88% screen-to-body ratio. Plus, unlike ROG Strix G15, it features a full-sized island-style keyboard.

Asus VivoBook 15 looks like an old navy laptop but with some alterations to make it more visually appealing. The design is clean and simple, giving it a minimal appearance. The laptop has a solid construction, making it durable and a bit heavier.

Additionally, the laptop features a fingerprint sensor for faster login and a backlit keyboard. The fingerprint sensor supports Windows Hello.

However, the biggest deal-breaker can be its battery life which only lasts 4-5 hours after a full charge, less than other rivals such as Acer Swift 3.

Final Words on the asus vs acer laptops

Since now, you must have understood that it is not easy to say that Acer is a better brand than Asus or vice versa. Both Acer and Asus are very popular and reliable brands, especially in the laptop markets, and to be honest, I love both of them.

I have been using the Acer Predator laptop for over the past three years, and to date, I haven’t faced a single major issue. There is surely a heating problem with the laptop, but that is because I use the laptop for gaming and CPU-heavy tasks.

If you use an Asus gaming laptop such as ROG or Zephyrus, they get heated when you play AAA titles at 1080p or above graphics settings.

To be frank, if you are looking for a budget-friendly or value-for-money laptop, go with Acer. Otherwise, if you can expend some extra $$$ for a better innovative design, Asus can be a good choice.

To conclude this article, I would say that the brand should not be your primary concern when buying a laptop.

Both are reliable brands; therefore, look for the configuration, design, and all other things you want on your laptop and then see which of these brands offers the best value for money.
