Steps On How To Delete A Wix Account
The steps are sectioned for easy understanding. Please donât skip any of the steps to ensure that everything works out well.
Canceling Your Subscriptions
The reason why this is the first action to take when trying to delete a Wix account is that Wix does not allow accounts that have active subscriptions to be deleted.Â
How To Cancel Your Subscription
First, log in to your Wix account.Â
Then on the top right-hand corner of your dashboard, tap on your account name and picture.
A drop-down menu should appear immediately after the tap.
Click on the Billing and Payments option from the options in the drop-down menu.
When the Billing and Payments menu opens up, youâll be able to see all of the subscriptions youâre paying for.
Cancel all of the subscriptions by clicking on the Plan or Subscription. In the window that appears, search for and click on Cancel Plan.
Confirm your action by choosing Cancel Now in the next window that appears. After that, your subscriptions should be canceled.Â
You have to do this for each subscription though, so take note.Â
Also, cancel any other subscription for other services. It is important that all subscriptions be it domains or plans or mailboxes are canceled.Â
Moving Your Sites To Trash
When youâre done with the above steps and youâre sure you were successful in canceling your subscriptions, you will have to delete your sites by moving them to trash.
To do that is pretty easy though, all you have to do is follow the steps explained below.
How To Move Your Sites To Trash
The first thing to do (assuming youâre already logged into your Wix account) is to open the My Sites option.
This option is usually found at the top left-hand side of your screen.Â
When youâre inside the My Sites menu, just click on the tiny arrow to the top left of the site you wish to trash.
When you click on the menu that appears, choose Move To Trash and that should move the site you hovered on to Trash.
Please note that you have to do this individually for all of the sites you have. Doing one does not automatically move the others.
Transferring, Cancelling, Or Removing DomainsÂ
This tip is only useful for folks that have attached domains to their Wix account.Â
If you didnât attach any domain to your Wix account, you can just skip this section and move to the next step.
But if you have domains attached to the Wix account youâre trying to delete, then you have to follow the steps below to ensure you donât lose important data and information.
You can perform two actions on domains when deleting your Wix account. You can either transfer the domains to another domain host or you can cancel the domains.Â
How To Transfer Your DomainsÂ
First, log in to your Wix account.Â
Then on the top right-hand corner of your dashboard, click on your account name and picture.
A drop-down menu should appear immediately after the click.
Click on the Domains option from the list of options in the drop-down menu.
When the Domains menu opens up. Click on the 3 dots to the right of any domain you want to transfer.
Youâll see the option of transferring the domain away from Wix totally or just transferring the domain to another Wix account.
Choose according to personal preference and move the domains.
Remember that transferring one domain does not automatically transfer others. You will have to individually transfer all the domains you want to transfer.Â
Canceling Domains Subscriptions
This is quite easy and similar to the process of canceling subscriptions.Â
If you have already canceled all of the premium plans in the first step, you can skip this âCancelling Domains Subscriptionsâ step.
Navigate to and open the Billing and Payments option by clicking on your account name.
When the Billing and Payments menu opens up, youâll be able to see all the domain subscriptions linked or attached to your Wix account.
Cancel all of the domain subscriptions by clicking on each of them. In the window that appears, search for and click on Cancel My Domain.Â
Confirm your action by choosing Cancel Now in the next window that appears. After that, your domain subscriptions should be canceled.Â
Removing DomainsÂ
This option is for folks who have domains that although are hosted somewhere else but are still connected to the Wix account theyâre trying to delete.
What you have to do is remove the domain. It is pretty easy and youâll use steps that are familiar (if youâve been following the steps above).
Iâm assuming youâre already logged in.Â
All you have to do is navigate to the top right-hand corner of your dashboard, click on your account name and picture.
A drop-down menu should appear immediately after the click.
Click on the Domains option from the list of options in the drop-down menu.
When the Domains menu opens up. Click on any domain you want to remove and then click on the Advanced tab.
Choose the Remove Domain from Wix option and that should do it.
As usual, you will have to do this for individual domains.Â
Deleting Your Wix Account
Finally, youâre here. This is the last step in the âhow to delete a Wix accountâ process.Â
Hereâs something important you need to know before the deletion process can be completed.Â
- Wix only allows the deletion of accounts after all premium services have expired.Â
This means your subscription (even though you canceled it) must go through its natural timeframe and elapse before you can actually delete your account.Â
How To Delete A Wix Account
After youâre sure the subscription timeframe has expired, follow the steps explained below to delete your Wix account.
Navigate to your Account Settings menu and find a box that says Deactivate Your Wix Account at the bottom right-hand side of your screen.
Click on the Learn More option in the box.Â
At the bottom of the screen that appears next, go to Step 4 and click on it.Â
Step 4 has three numbered options. Go to the second option (Click Here To Open The Deactivate Account Window) and click on Here.
When the window appears, click on the Deactivate Account option.Â
Confirm your choice by clicking on Yes in the next menu that appears and if all your subscriptions have elapsed, your Wix account will be deleted.Â
ConclusionÂ
The actual âhow to delete a Wix accountâ process usually takes a few minutes as you can see above.
What makes it a bit complicated is the fact that you have to wait for your subscriptions to elapse. This is why the first step of canceling all subscriptions is vital to deleting your Wix account.
