Best eBook Reader for Every Budget

Kindle Paperwhite

Best eBook Reader

With a whole product line dedicated to electronic readers, Amazon seems to dominate the market for eBook readers. The Kindle Paperwhite has accommodated a wide array of reading preferences. It seems to be designed for the mass market.

The Paperwhite has a high resolution, which translates to crisper lines and clear typography as though you were reading text on printed paper. It’s 300ppi display puts it at par with the average mid-range tablet and smartphone. Put another way, the screen resolution you get with the Kindle Paperwhite is nearly the same as what is obtainable in most mid-range smart mobile devices.

The latest Paperwhite also has access to Amazon’s Bookerly font, which enhances character spacing with justification, hyphenation and ligatures.

While we measure our phone’s battery life in hours or days, the Kindle Paperwhite beats that measurement by huge proportions. It’s remarkable battery life can last up to six weeks if you read approximately thirty minutes a day (with Wi-Fi switched off). This is more than suitable to support the lifestyle of the most intrepid of travelers.

Since eyestrain is a major concern with mobile devices, the Kindle Paperwhite comes with an adjustable built-in light. This feature puts e-readers ahead of tablets. The Paperwhite’s gentle backlight can even be used in direct sunlight.

Uniqueness: The Kindle Paperwhite is arguably the best all-around reader that you would in the market.

Over-reliance on Amazon’s services: The functionality of the Kindle Paperwhite and in fact all kindles is heavy reliant on the Amazon ecosystem. The reason is not far: it does more good to the company’s bottom line; And that’s at the expense of increased versatility.

No support for audio: Although Kindles use to be equipped with audio capabilities and narration features that provide the audio version of books, these features were discontinued some years ago. However, Amazon owns “Audible”, which is its audiobook store, so it seems odd that it does not integrate audio features on Kindles.

It doesn’t come with a charger: The Kindle Paperwhite doesn’t come with a charger. If you are purchasing this e-reader, then you would also be buying a separate charger. However, this is not a major concern since chargers are fairly cheap. You may even opt for charging your laptop’s USB.
