Possible Release Date
Samsung usually releases an outfit of devices, including their flagship smartphone, Galaxy S, sometime in February. We don’t anticipate the South Korean giant to derail from its tradition this year. Although they unveiled the last iteration in Barcelona, we expect Samsung to release S9 in February at their branded event in New York. Don’t take our word for it, though – the company could push it to March. If we had to point at a calendar, however, we’d say February 26 is the release date.
If you can’t wait to lay your hands on a top-tier device from Samsung, you don’t have to wait until February. You can now buy one cheaply online. The good news is that you can unlock Samsung Galaxy devices without much trouble.
Leaks and Rumors on the Price of S9
Although we won’t know for sure until Samsung unveils the gadget, we can use trends and history to make a ballpark pricing. With the costs of smartphone components always on the rise, we can anticipate an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9 to cost around $799, although it could be as low as $699.99. The good thing is that you can get the gadget through your carrier. After all, it’s super easy and fast to unlock Samsung devices nowadays.
Samsung’s OLED displays are already superb, but a credible source has been quoted as saying the company is working extra hard to make them even better. The S8 featured a slightly weird 18:5:9 aspect ratio and sources claim that the form factor is going to stay that way in S9. Similarly, we don’t expect a big change in size, probably something close to 6-inch. While the size is still subject debate, one thing is for sure: the display will feature curved edges.
The latest news shows that S9 will boast of an in-display scanner which will help reduce the weight, size, and thickness of the device. There’s also a supposedly leaked packing image that shows that S9 will feature 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display spec.
Here are the leaked design specs:
- Increased screen-to-body ratio, with the reduced bezel size
- Fingerprint Scanner repositioned
- Lighter and stronger material, mostly glass and metal body
If leaked specs are to be believed, we can’t help but be excited the use of variable aperture. Other rumored camera specs include 1000 fps super slow-motion camera, 3D face-detect scanner, and dual-aperture camera system.
We have come to expect a certain degree of top-notch quality from Galaxy smartphones when it comes to processors. Leaked information shows that S9 will either Exynos 9810S or snapdragon 845 plus 4GB of RAM.
If Exynos chipset will take precedence over Snapdragon 845, S9 battery capacity has to increase. From the leaked specs, S9 will boast of a 3000mAh battery pack.
Other rumored features include an improved iris scanner and stereo speakers. From the look of things, we can expect more bells and whistles from Samsung Galaxy S9.
