Why WordPress?

Guide On WordPress For Students Who Want To Create User-Friendly Sites

At the beginning of 2019, the platform says that 33% of the sites on the Internet are made on WordPress. Also, one of the pros of using WordPress is that working on WordPress is free and relatively fast.

Plan:-

  • Choosing a theme
  • Adding content
  • Customizing the look
  • Improving website functionality with plugins

Although creating a website on WordPress is free, you still have to spend money. To publish a website on the Internet, you need to buy a domain and hosting. You can easily research how to do it. It does not require an academic course or lesson. If you already have it, you can start building your site.

Choosing a theme:-

There are free and paid themes. Free articles can be installed directly in the site control panel – you can choose from 6800 options in the WordPress library. The functionality of free themes is more minor than paid ones.

Paid themes can be purchased from the official WordPress website. In such themes the settings are more subtle, you can edit any elements on the site, choose any fonts, add animation, audio, and video players to the site. Paid themes are updated regularly, and if you find a bug, you can write a letter to the developer and ask them to fix the problem.

Free will be enough to get started.

Adding content:-

WordPress sites have two types of content: posts and pages. Posts are blog articles, examples of work in a portfolio, a story about a hero, or products in an online store. You can leave comments on posts or share them on social networks. They appear on the page in chronological order by default, with new posts at the top and old ones at the bottom.

Of course, to publish something you need to write it first. If storytelling is not your strong side and you need help with essay, try to work with an essay builder for writing. Pages are sections of a site. The site’s home page, sections “Shipping and payment” and “About the company,” are three different. By default, WordPress displays posts on the homepage. Next, we will show how to create a separate page and make it the main one.

First, let’s add some posts to the site. It will be more evident to you as a student that preparing a post is like writing an essay.

Step 1. In the menu on the left, find the “Posts” section and click “Add New.”

Before publishing, you can look at the post from the user’s point of view and edit if you don’t like something. To do this:

  1. Click “View” at the top right.
  1. For the text to appear on the site, click “Publish.”
  1. If you want to finish and publish the post later, click “Save.”

Step 2. Let’s create a new page and make it the main one. Find the “Pages” section in the left menu and click “Add New.”

Enter the title of the page in the top field. In our case, this is the “Home Page.” The name is necessary to avoid getting confused if there are several pages.

Find the “Page Attributes” section in the menu on the right and find the “Template” option. By default, there will be a value of “Basic Template,” change it to “Home,” and click “Publish.”

We have created the main page of the site. It will contain information about you or your company. Now you need to make another one – for the blog. It will only display articles.

Step 3. Create a new page and name it “Blog.” Leave the page Attributes set to Base Template.

A link will appear below the page title, which will take visitors to the blog. So far, the site’s design has not changed because you need to specify which page will be the main one in the settings.

In the next section, let’s bring beauty: turn off unnecessary blocks and redo the rest.

 Customizing the look

Step 1. Hover over the “Appearance” section in the left menu and select the “Customize” subsection. The site editor will open.

Step 2. First, let’s change the site’s name in the page header. To do this, select the “Site Properties” section. Here you can change the site’s name and add a logo to the title. In the end, don’t forget to click the “Publish” button in the upper left corner.

To return to the previous page of the editor, click the arrow next to the section title. If you click on the cross, you will return to the WordPress dashboard.

Step 3. Add links to the blog and a feedback form to the page header.

Our theme has a separate block with a form. It’s the last one on the main page. So you need to link directly to a specific section.

Each section on the main page has its ID. You can view it in the editor section dedicated to this block. Go to “Home Page Sections” from the main menu and select the “Contacts” subsection.

The ID is the “Partition ID” field. Come up with a short word so that there is only one language later in the link.

We have created an identifier, and now we can link to the section. To the usual link to the site’s main page, you need to add a fraction, a hash symbol, and the identifier of the desired block. It will turn out like this.

If you want to add links to other sections to the site header, come up with identifiers for them as well.

You can choose the text’s color and background in other editor sections and edit different areas. Separately, you can change the appearance of the blog page. To do this, go to the blog page directly in the editor.

Next, we will figure out how to improve the site’s functionality using plugins.

Adding plugins

Plugins are additional features for a website. They need to be installed separately. After that, another section will appear in the WordPress control panel, where you can configure the new functionality. Like themes, plugins also come in paid and free versions. You can search for a suitable plugin right in your WordPress dashboard.

Conclusion

That’s all. We have broken down the main features of WordPress and created a simple page. You have to finish the job by adding content to the remaining sections and editing their appearance.
