If you have heard of USB port blocker, you may be wondering if you need to get one for your system, or why you may need one in the first place.
USB port locking/blocking software is able to block your computer from reading any USB Flash drive. This may be very important knowing that USB Flash drives are one of the most significant potential threats to your system.
If you are accustomed to having people around your work environment of friends use your computer, then you may consider one of these.
Some port blockers will come with support for adding a password to change the USB port block settings, and others may provide support to use USB port as read-only.
In this article, I will give you a list of some of my favorite free USB port blockers.
Best Free USB Port Blocker: Our Top Picks
There are not so many that will enter my list, especially since most of the great value will come at a premium price. But still, there are a few that get the work neatly done and are free.
1. BuduLock
This is a great one and is definitely worth the mention on my list. With its 2 tabs; one for folder lock and the other for USB lock, it is really easy to use.
This simple USB port lock software for Windows can be used to lock folders. Even though it will not totally serve the function to lock the USB port, it also blocks USB flash drives and memory drives.
When using Budulock, devices such as the mouse, keyboard, and webcam will work properly even when the lock is active.
Once the USB flash lock is enabled, your computer will not access any USB memory drives. You can increase security by using the change password feature.
2. USBDeview
USBDeview makes the list for the support for remote port blocking. It allows one to block a port on another system.
USBDeview is a USB port manager that lets you enable and disable USB port lock. It allows one to view the list of USB ports and a list of the devices connected to them.
The File menu in USBDeview includes options to interact with USB devices, like enabling or disabling them and disconnecting all of them at the same time.
Another feature that makes this freeware special is that it allows one choose and block specific ports.
3. Nomesoft USB Guard
If you need a USB port blocker with a nice, simple and easy to use interface, then it has to be Nomesoft SB Gaurd. It basically gives two main options. You can either entirely block USB detection, or make the USB device read-only. The downside to this freeware is that it may not maintain support for windows 10.
4. Ratool
Removable Access Tool (a.k.a. Ratool) is a simple to use portable freeware application which aids in the control of external storage devices such as USB flash drives, CD/DVD drives, as well as floppy, tape and WPD devices.
Ratool can disable USB storage access or enable write protection on all USB flash drives, thus preventing data from being modified or deleted, protecting your confidential data from being copied by others.
This tool does a pretty good job of right protecting. Ratool has a sleek interface that allows three basic functions:
- Allow Read & Write – this is the default
- Allow Read-only
- Block USB Storage Devices
Ratool will by default “lock” its changes to write access. This makes them much more difficult to remove and harder to bypass without proper access.

You must note that this is my preferred list and it is represented in no particular option. Of course, there are premium software that will get the job done much better than this freware, but if you looking for basic and simple security, feel free to dig in.
