If you work with the command prompt window often and also switch to other folders frequently, then you have to enter the command “CD” and possibly lengthy paths.
In the earlier Windows 10 versions, it was still possible to select the command prompt in the Explorer with the [Shift] button pressed and right-clicking on the folder. However,
in the latest Windows 10 versions, only the PowerShell can be opened.
Open command prompt window from any folder
To get the command prompt back, you have to change the registry. Press
[Windows] + [R] and type “regedit“.
Open the path “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd”
Right-click on “cmd” and select “Permissions“.
In the following window, click on “Administrators” and set a check mark for “Full access” under “Allow”. Click on “Apply” and then on “OK”.
Should an error message appear now stating that the authorization cannot be changed, then you must take a small detour. Rightclick again on “cmd” and select “Permissions“.
In the window, open another window with “Advanced“. Click on “Change” on top in this window. Now, type your exact username in the input field and click on “Check Names“.
If the name matches, then Windows will allow the entry. Confirm with OK and go back
to the window where you can allow full access. Select the option “User” this time and activate full access by clicking on “Accept” and “OK”. The exact spelling of your username is given under “C:\ User”.
Back in the registry, you will see the entry “HideBasedOnVelocityId” on the right. Right-click on it and select “Rename” and insert a dash, for example, at the beginning of the name.
After that, close the registry. Now, the command “Open command prompt here” will be seen after right-clicking on the folder and keeping the [Shift] key pressed at the same time.
2. Second Method
Download and install Easy Context Menu tool and run with an administrator right, navigate down and select ‘Folder Context menu” and select ” open command prompt here” option and finally click on the ‘Apply” here. That’s it.
You need to press [Shift] key to make ” Open Command prompt” visible here.
Before Change ( Only Powershell option is visible here)
After Change, you have both ” Open Command Prompt Here” and ” Open PowerShell windows here” 🙂
